FEATURED PUBLICATION | Mainstreaming the SDGs in Teacher Education

The Research and Development Office (RDO) proudly features the publication entitled “Mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals in Teacher Education Curricula: Opportunities, Challenges, and Best Practices,” highlighting Mr. Remus S. Magbanua of the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos as one of its authors. The article was published in Frontiers in Education on May 29, 2026.

This mixed-methods research examined how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are integrated into teacher education curricula, focusing on opportunities, challenges, and practices that support meaningful sustainability education. Involving 330 pre-service teachers, the study found high perceived SDG integration and strong awareness, attitudes, and preparedness among future educators.

The study highlights the value of experiential, interdisciplinary, contextually grounded, and technology-supported approaches in preparing future teachers to bring sustainability principles into their classrooms and communities.

Through this publication, Mr. Remus S. Magbanua contributes to the growing body of research connecting teacher education, curriculum development, and sustainable development.
