The Research and Development Office (RDO), represented by Ms. Yzi D. Oquindo and Ms. Dorothy V. Pradela, participated in the three-day training program “Copyright and Legal Basics for Digitizing Government Records,” organized by the Government Records Officers’ Association of the Philippines, Inc. (GROAP, Inc.), held on September 16–18, 2026, at Crown Legacy Hotel, Baguio City.
The training provided an in-depth discussion on the legal and ethical dimensions of digitization, covering copyright and intellectual property, lawful sharing of records and research data, data privacy, institutional data ownership, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in records management. Participants also examined relevant Philippine laws and guidelines that govern the reproduction, preservation, access, and digital management of information.
Beyond the discussions, the program incorporated hands-on workshops and case exercises, allowing participants to apply the concepts to copyright classification, data-release decisions, vendor and data ownership concerns, orphan works, and AI governance.
Through this professional development engagement, the RDO continues to strengthen its capacity to promote responsible research data management, research integrity, digital governance, and the ethical use of emerging technologies in support of the University’s research ecosystem.
